The Inevitable Tragedy: NASA's Emergency Planning
The space shuttle columbia, from a scheduled landing at Kennedy Space Center in Florida, blew apart, spreading wreckage from Fort Worth across east Texas to Louisiana and killing all seven astronauts on board. NASA responded immediately with communication through all media, letting the world know that a disaster had occurred. This time NASA was prepared, but years ago when the first
space disaster occurred, it was not ready for a crisis situation.
Tragedy again struck the nation’s space program as millions of Americans and people all over the world witnessed via live television the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger shortly after liftoff. In their critiques of NASA’s communication on the disaster, many professional observers and news reporters commented that little seemed to have been learned from earlier experiences. Although the flight controllers knew the fate of the Challenger crew almost instantly.
This case is related in chapter three about situational Theory. If NASA tell to people all over the world about the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger, and another accident of the error from NASA. And fine the better solution about safety of organization NASA and safety about accident.
